| RULES of Audax riding both in the United States and France. I - Introduction Definition Brevets conducted using the Audax formula are randonnés carried out as a GROUP. The origin of the word (Latin for audacious) designates those cyclists capable of completing a distance of 200 km during the hours between sunrise to sunset. The Audax Français were created by Henri Desgrange in 1904 to reinvigorate serious cycloturism. An Audax brevet is a test of both regularity and endurance carried out at an average enroute speed of 22.5 km/h between control points. Distances The brevets covered by this system are for the following distances, 100, 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000 km. The distances of 400, 600 and 1000 are characterized by an enforced stop during the night (neutralization). The only distance greater is Paris-Brest-Paris to be organized every 5 years by the Union des Audax Français. Route Captains The group or peloton shall be lead by a specified leader who shall be called the Route Captain. He shall maintain as steady a pace as possible enroute, it is therefore forbidden for riders to pass him. These Captains are charged with the proper conduct and execution of these events, their security and adherence to time schedules. They are authorized to make all decisions regarding these points. |
